Expansion of “Five Eyes”
Recent changes to Canada’s information exchange with other countries are meant to speed up processing time and increase security, but with increased access come questions about privacy and misuses of information.
Canada has amended the legislation to include new automated immigration information sharing allowances with Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States (the last of which started some time ago). This means that Canada is now automatically providing certain information about third-country nationals and permanent residents, if requested by one of the partners.
And while Canadian citizens are exempt from the information sharing, those who are here temporarily (including refugee claimants) are not.

From May 31, 2017, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is open again and is accepting new applications.
The program has launched a new stream for skilled trades workers.  The province is attempting to attract skilled trades workers who are already employed in Ontario to meet the labour market needs in the construction and agricultural sectors, but the program could be expanded to other sectors in the future.
Formerly the “Employer Driven Stream”, it is now called the “Employer Job Offer Stream” with some updates.
The Entrepreneur Stream has lowered the minimum language requirements, and potential applicants will be awarded more points if they wish to establish their business, or buy an existing business,
in a community outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
